Estados Unidos llevó a cabo el 6 de noviembre las elecciones de medio término, para elegir cargos legislativos, al menos 40 gobernadores entre otros asuntos relacionados a normativas. El migrante Guillermo Castillo, residente en Kentucky, entrevistó a Junis Warren Profesora de Ciencias Políticas en el York College, CUNY, quien dio su postura respecto al evento electoral:
La elección intermedia de los Estados Unidos después de la elección del Presidente Donald Trump fue moral para la nación. Históricamente, esta es la primera vez que un Presidente ha sido tan racista en dividir a la nación. La mayoría de los presidentes han logrado unificar a la nación después de una elección, pero Trump elige representar solo a los estadounidenses de raza blanca, y dirige a la nación como un nacionalista.
Era imperativo que los demócratas controlaran la Cámara de Representantes para devolverle cierta dignidad a la oficina y proteger a nuestras instituciones contra una administración de extrema derecha, una nación dividida, una división racista, el temor a la creciente comunidad latina y restaurar la moderación al lenguaje de esta administración. La nación está cansada de su discurso racista. Los demócratas protegerán la investigación rusa y el estado de derecho. Es imperativo que haya controles y balances en la administración de Trump. El pueblo estadounidense piensa que está fuera de control. Elegimos un presidente, no un rey.
La pérdida del Senado es un golpe para los demócratas porque es la más fuerte de las dos cámaras del Congreso, nombra a la mayoría de los jueces para varios tribunales y aprueba la mayoría de los nombramientos para la Casa Blanca.
La elección intermedia fue y es un “control” sobre el poder de Donald Trump, la protección de los inmigrantes, la atención médica y protegerá la investigación rusa. Además es de observar el número de mujeres y personas de color que fueron elegidas. Esto es una cosa buena.
El control de la Cámara de Representantes salvaguardará los migrantes de la caravana. A él, Trump le costará mucho más imponer políticas ilegales dirigidas a los latinos. Son refugiados, no criminales y pandilleros. Trump ha usado el lenguaje más racista contra los latinos, y esto llegará a su fin en 2020.
Este es un giro positivo para la caravana de migrantes porque se le impedirá usar las tropas en la frontera. En otras palabras, habrá supervisión y un control sobre su abuso de poder. Sin embargo, esto no traerá cambios importantes en América Central y no permitirá la entrada de la mayoría de los migrantes a los Estados Unidos, sino un trato más humano como refugiados. Estados Unidos debe cambiar su política hacia Centroamérica. Ha contribuido a los problemas que afectan a esta área y, sobre todo, es necesario que haya más relaciones diplomáticas con la región. Tengo la esperanza de que con más latinos elegidos en todo Estados Unidos ayude en esta dirección.

The USA midterm election after the election of Donald Trump was a moral one for the nation. Historically, this is the first time that a president has been so racist in dividing the nation. Most presidents have managed to unify the nation after an election, but Trump chooses to be representing only White Americans, and is running the nation as a nationalist.
It was imperative that the Democrats control the House of Representatives to restore some dignity to the office, and to protect our institutions against an Alt right administration, divided nation, racist division, fear of the growing Latino community and and to restore the tenor in language from this administration. The nation is tired of his racist rant. The Democrats will protect the Russion investigation and the rule of law. It is imperative that there are checks and balances on the Trump administration. The American people think he is out of control. We elected a president, not a king.
The lost of the Senate is a blow and set back for the Democrats because it is the stronger of the two chambers of Congress, it appoints most of the judges to various courts and approves most of the appointments for the White House.
The midterm election was and is a “check” on the power of Donald Trump, protection for immigrants, healthcare and will protect the Russian investigation. In addition, the number of women, people of color were elected. This is a good thing.
The control of the House of Representatives will safeguard the passage of the migrant caravan. He, Trump will have such harder time imposing unlawful policies aimed at Latinos. They are refugees, not criminals and gang members. Trump has used the most racist language against Latinos, and this will come to an end in 2020.
This is a positive turn for the migrant caravan because he will be prevented from using the troops at border. In other words, there will be oversight and a check on his abuse of power. However, this will not bring about major changes in Central America, and will not allow most of the migrants entry into the USA, but more humane treatment as refugees. The USA must changed its policy towards Central America. It has contributed to the problems that plagued this area, and most of all there needs to be more diplomatic relations with the region. I am hopeful that with more Latinos being elected across America will aid in this direction.
